Sarvam AI has announced that its Indus Cowork platform is now live for 2,500 Maharashtra government officials following an enterprise agreement with the state’s Commissionerate of Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the platform on October 28, 2026, as part of Maharashtra’s MahaINDUS initiative, which brings AI assistance into routine government administration.
AI Assistance for Government Work
Indus Cowork helps officials draft documents, analyze reports, summarize files and translate information across 22 languages, including Marathi. It can also convert scanned records into searchable text, making older government documents easier to access.
A feature called GR Expert allows officials to search Government Resolutions across departments, identify current rules and check whether earlier orders have been replaced. Other tools support email summarization and tender evaluation.
Sarvam says its platform operates on audited infrastructure located entirely within India. Maharashtra officials have also stated that government information will not be used to train AI models.
Maharashtra approved a broader Sarvam AI deployment in August 2026. October’s launch brings the previously announced technology into government use, although independent figures on active usage and productivity improvements have not been published.
For public administration, accurate retrieval of current rules matters as much as drafting speed. Officials will still need to verify AI-generated information against original government records, particularly when handling decisions that affect public services.
